Joint Complex

As is generally known, the bone in the joints is covered with cartilage and the joint is enclosed by a capsule. Strong and flexible connective tissue is essential for healthy joints. It provides stability to the cartilage, protects the bone and produces synovial fluid (synovia).

Biochemical function:

Glucosamin is a major component of cartilage and the inner membrane of the joint. It ensures the production of sufficient synovial fluid and hence maintains proper joint function. As a component of synovial fluid, glucosamine enhances its viscosity and thus makes it an effective cushion between the surfaces of the cartilage.
Chondroitin
is the main component of the cartilage tissue and can also be found in other connective tissues, the tendons and the skin. Chondroitin can be produced by the body itself. Its ability to bind water allows it to maintain the cartilage’s flexibility and smoothness. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a natural source of the important universal building block sulphur. Sulphur keeps the skin soft and gives shine to the hair. It is a component of keratin, the structural material making up the human skin, nails and hair. Sulphur is also necessary for connective tissue synthesis and is a main component of cartilage and other forms of connective tissue. Collagen hydrolysate is a natural connective tissue components compound supporting the retention and recovery of the stability and flexibility of the connective tissue. Vitamin C and the essential amino acid lysine are elements required for healthy connective tissue, the cartilage tissue et.al.
Vitamin B12
has, among other things, a protective effect on enzymes involved in the production and repair of connective tissue and thus of cartilage tissue.
Vitamin D3 plays an important role for the growth of connective tissue and hence also for bone and cartilage growth.

 

Natural sources:

Glucosamine is found in sea food (like crayfish and prawns). Chondroitin is extracted from animal cartilage tissue. Naturally, MSM could be found in fresh fruit and vegetables, but is lost during storage and processing (heating when cooking).
